G’day Mudgee, I am back again but not as you know me.
This time I will be doing something completely different from my usual tasks here at the Mudgee Guardian, but before we get into that, I will tell you a bit about myself if you haven’t already heard enough.
As most of you may know, I have been somewhat of a regular at the Mudgee Guardian by interning for a total of five weeks.
During that time I covered a wide range of things including pet profiles, events and overall news reporting as well as posting daily weather forecasts on the Mudgee Guardian’s Instagram account.
It was not until my final stint of interning at the Guardian that I tried my hand at sports reporting, and honestly, I fell in love.
I find this type of reporting to fit more like a glove in terms of style - making things fun and having the ability to use not very hard newsy words such as clash, punished, or my personal favourite - finesse.
I come from a place that you may have heard of and is only a short distance away from here - Bathurst, but quickly came to the realisation that Mudgee is right for me.
There's not a single story I will not endeavor to cover, big or small as each sport deserves coverage.
- Jay-Anna Mobbs
Yes, this means I get to escape the havoc of what us locals call ‘Race Week’. If you have ever been to Bathurst at this time of the year, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
The last bit I will mention about myself is that I have recently just completed all of my university assignments so I consider myself to be somewhat alike to one of Harry Potter’s most beloved characters, Dobby - a free elf.
Now, back to business.
I am the new sports journalist and will be focusing heavily on covering a broad range of sports no matter how big or small.
I believe every achievement or attempt should be celebrated, so I am making it my mission to cover anything and everything.
Women’s sport is also without a doubt at the top of my mission list too as it deserves the same amount of coverage each sport gets, and is definitely in need of some promotion.
With this all being said, I am looking at growing the way Mudgee sport is reached by the community and am starting with a new Instagram account dedicated to the region’s sport.
