Music from across the world and spanning five centuries will feature in the Cudgegong Community Choir’s celebratory concert at the end of October.
French, Spanish, Latin and Hebrew works and a piece in the Russian Orthodox tradition will be sure to delight the audience, as well as a number of favourites such as JS Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, performed at the choir’s first concert in November, 2008.
The concert opens with three pieces from Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: a Mass for Peace. Sanctus, the first of these works, is also the name of this concert. Choir conductor, Mary Mitchell, explained that this work was “dedicated to the victims of the war in Kosovo. It premiered in 2001, the CD being released the day before the World Trade Centre attacks.”
The concert will also feature instrumental works, including an organ solo by the choir’s accompanist Gavin Tipping, a string ensemble and another for flutes and organ.
Cello, trumpet and flute will accompany some of the works, while choir member Judith James will be the soloist in Mozart’s Laudate Dominum.
The concert will be held on Sunday, October 28 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Mudgee, commencing at 3.30 pm. Tickets, available at the door, will be $20 for adults, $15 concession, and children $5.
