Mudgee’s in the midst of getting their own women’s rugby league teams.
Coordinator Shannon Beasley took to Facebook to put out the idea after so much interest was sent her way after the visit to Albury and much to her shock, she woke up to 25 missed messages from girls showing their interest.
“It was huge, I couldn’t believe it.”
“I was blown away by how keen they all were.”

Originally the idea was to fall into a castlereagh side with a mix of players from Coolah, Dunedoo, Gulgong, Gilgandra, however, it is looking more like Mudgee will have their own teams.
There are three teams that need girls: under 15s (must be 13 next year at least), under 18s and opens.
Although the opens side has enough to make a team, more numbers are needed for reserves.
The girls will be playing tackle in an eight week comp from late January to the end of March, against teams from Bathurst, Orange, Oberon and Dubbo, with training starting in November.
“The best thing is that it’ll all be over and done with before Netball, League Tag and everything else starts.”

Beasley ensures tackle isn’t as scary as it seems, and if you’re interested you are encouraged to go to training and see what it’s all about.
“It’s not as brutal as you think.”
“Come down to training, you never know, you might actually like it.”

The idea came once Beasley’s daughter, Charlie Beasley and fellow player, Ally Stot went to Albury to play in the 2018 Albury Thunder 9’s competition.
This was Ally and Charlie’s first attempt at playing tackle, and since this was known, the spark for interest ignited.
