When the Late Mail Postie Bike Ride returns to Mudgee this Saturday it will be with a fundraising amount – to be announced – which is set to exceed all expectations and crack the half-million dollar mark for the event’s five year history.

The ride is the idea of Jason Turner from Mudgee who organises the annual event to raise funds to help children in regional NSW through supporting the charity Wings4Kidz, who provide a specialist free air service to treatment for children with serious and life threatening illnesses.
This year has seen 50 riders embark on the 1900km journey, which in 2018 ventured north of the Tweed into Queensland.
They travelled by plane from Penrith to Maroochydore, jumping on the bikes from there to Esk, Warwick, Tenterfield, Glen Innes, Armidale, Hanging Rock, Scone, Willow Tree and Tamworth before turning south to return via Mullalley, Coonabarabran and Mendooran before arriving in Mudgee on October 20.
Not only does the route have to be carefully planned, but accommodation, events along the way, fuel stops, breakdown support, spare bikes, and support safety vehicle also have to be organised. All by riders who work their normal day jobs, then spend several months of planning the ride.
In past years organisers set a fundraising target of $100,000 and exceeded it, this year their goal is to raise $150,000, with 100 per cent going to the Wings4Kidz flight program.
WELCOME THEM HOME
The Ride finishes at Robertson Park, (Market Street side) at around 3pm on Saturday, October 20. Locals are encouraged to come along and welcome the weary riders.
