After falling in the quarter-finals at the Hornets Championships in Nelson Bay a fortnight ago, the Mudcrabs want to show their rivals that they are a team not to be taken lightly.
They won one of their four matches at the Hornets titles, and captain-coach Justin Gossage said a better performance was required this weekend.
“Hornets was our first tournament in nearly a year but we did identify areas where we need to improve,” he said.
It will not be getting any easier for Mudgee with 11 teams vying out for the right to be crowned champions.
The Mudcrabs have been drawn into Pool B and will play against the likes of Port Macquarie, Central West rivals Orange and Young, and Jerrabomberra - a team based on the NSW-ACT border.
“There are a lot of question marks next to some of the teams, like Young and Jerrabomberra; I don’t know much about them,” Gossage said.
“Orange is a club that are similar to us, while Port Macquarie have been the best country team for a number of years.”
The other pool includes Newcastle, Wallsend, Parkes, Wollongong, Albion Park and Beresfield.
Mudgee will be boosted by the return of players Sally Harris, Andrew Laurie and Tyler Lawson.
