Kyle Hartigan, aged 20, of Castlereagh Highway, Gulgong, was fined $880 and disqualified for 15 weeks on top of the time spent suspended since the incident.
He was stopped by police in Queen Street, Gulgong, in order to conduct a random breath test at about 11.50pm on Friday, July 27, 2018.
After testing positive for alcohol he was taken to Gulgong Police Station, where a breath analysis of 0.105 was recorded.
He admitted to consuming nine drinks - four sevens of bourbon and coke and five schooners of beer – over a two hour period.
Hartigan’s solicitor, Richard Wise, told the court that his client had originally intended on sleeping in his vehicle that evening but changed his mind as the temperature continued to drop.
Magistrate David Day commented, “he must’ve been staying in town, drinking that much”.
Before suggesting that the defendant should’ve considering walking instead.
“He put his own convenience ahead of other road users,” his honour said.
