The Mudgee District Tennis Club’s Club Championships are ready to take to the court for the 2018 installment.
Originally starting out in the pre-war time over 100 years ago, the Club Championships have become a highlight event on the club’s calendar as it’s a time where everyone can get together and chuck their hat in the ring to see who is the best in the region.
This year will see the incorporation of a Division 2 competition that will be played in conjunction with the Club Championships, allowing those who feel less superior to still play throughout the month of November, whilst also add something extra.
Both junior and senior events will be played throughout the month with three action packed Sundays planned, giving junior players a pathway into senior tennis in Mudgee.
While the aim of the event is to crown the region’s equivalent to Rafael Nadal, Mudgee District Tennis Club ensures it is a family affair with other activities held throughout the duration of the competition.
Club Championships Organiser James Hughes, says there’s no doubt the Club Championships will be here to stay for quite some time.
“The Championships are now in their fourth year since their re-instatement after a short hiatus and it’s really come a long way.”
While the word Championship tends to scare a few people away, the day is really just about having a go and enjoying the game of tennis.
- James Hughes
Hughes says introducing a Division 2 competition will allow every skill level the chance to play, whilst giving the more confident players an opportunity to show us their finesse which ultimately wouldn’t have been possible without sponsors.
“Events are graded to allow for those who don’t feel like they can win the Open’s Championship but still want a good hit to play in the Division 2 competition.”
You can be a top-line player or someone who just likes a hit and giggle. It’s really for everyone.
- James Hughes
“We’re very lucky to have Ash Diprose from Flight Centre Mudgee on-board once again this year to sponsor the event. If it wasn’t for his generosity, we wouldn’t be able to put this event on.”
