The inaugural Mudgee Garden Spectacular was held in a very dry period for Mudgee and our greatest worry was rain! However, the weather remained clear and the gardens were looking spectacular thanks to the hard work of the generous garden owners who allowed the Club to show the gardens.
Some highlights were catering at Hillgrove House by CWA, the performance by Cudgegong Choir and the guest lecturers who gave talks at each garden.
The event has raised in excess of $10,000 from ticket sales and the gardens were visited by more than 700 people.
Funds from sales will be used to support three local community organisations i.e. the Mudgee branches of CanAssist, Riding for the Disabled Association and National Association for Loss and Grief.
The success of this event has encouraged us to repeat this event in October 19-20, 2019 so mark your calendars with these dates.
Mathematical Minds Challenge
The Mudgee Mathematical Minds Challenge was also run for school students at St.Matthew’s Catholic School in November.
This is the third time this Challenge has been organised and the event has proved popular with students and keenly contested with significant prize money generously donated by sponsors KEPCO, Yancoal and Peabody Energy and with St. Matthews providing a venue and organisation on the day.
Prizewinners on the day were for Years 9-10 St. Mary’s, Wellington, Mudgee High and St. Matthew’s Mudgee; Years 7-8 Gulgong High, St. Matthew’s Mudgee and Mudgee High; Years 5-6 Mudgee Public School, Cudgegong Valley Public School and Gulgong Public School.
The prizes from the sponsors are used by schools for the Mathematics Enrichment Programs within the schools and to purchase other resources as needed. This programme is a concrete way that the Rotary Club of Mudgee supports numeracy skills development in our community.
Neither event could be run without our Rotary members. If this interests you why not come along to a meeting on a Tuesday night at Mudgee Golf Club? You will be made welcome. Find out more.
