Dragon boat clubs and community teams competed at the Western Region Dragon Boat Regatta held at Ben Chifley Dam, Bathurst on Sunday.

Western Region Regatta Committee Coordinator, Sue Jones said perfect light winds and sunny conditions combined to make the event a great day out.
“We had a fantastic day for racing and spectating,” Jones said.
The Central West teams – Parkes, Forbes, Colour City and composite teams Lithgow/Pinnacles, Waratahs Red (Bathurst Pan Dragons, Dubbo, Narooma) and Waratahs Green (Wagga Wagga Bidgee Dragons, MudDrangs and Blackwattle Bay) were competitve against the coastal teams Sudu – Wollongong, Tsunami, Sydney and Kempsey.
The community teams included Perthville Paddlers, The Old Swim School, Orange Health/Walkers, Bathurst, James Sheahan High School, Orange Credit Union, and Team Ollie.
“The Sports Women Race was won by Forbes/Kempsey. The Sports Men Tens Race and the Sports Mixed Race were both won by Tsunami.”
“We were really impressed by the friendly spirit of competition on the day and want to thank all the sporting and community teams who competed, and volunteers and Dragon Boats NSW for making the event a success.”
Next year’s Western Region Regatta will take place at Windamere Dam.
