The juniors event is boys and girls singles while the adult event is the Men’s and Women’s Doubles.
Whilst the event is called the Club Championships, participants are encouraged to play for fun in the Division 2 competition to allow for a family friendly day.
“We get a jumping castle for the kids so mum and dad can play without worrying about the children and of course those juniors who play get a chance to in between matches as well” Club Championships organiser James Hughes said.
It’s really about just getting back to having fun in the sun and enjoying a Sunday being active in a sport which really is for all ages.
- James Hughes
Day one of the Championships saw Shayna Hickey and Sam Roth take out the junior Mixed Doubles against brother and sister duo George and Gabrielle Mills 6-4, 6-1. The first set was a thriller with just one drop of service leading to the first set being over.
In the Men’s singles event, a number of players played in the Double Elimination format which saw Peter Robinson and Angus Macdonald reach the final. Macdonald was beaten earlier in the day which made his road back to the final a long and treachourous one.
Competitive tennis was played but in the end Peter Robinson’s slightly fresher legs and shorter run proving too much for Macdonald, Robinson taking out the Championship 6-3, 6-3.
Spectators are welcome to attend to watch local tennis and participate in the family fun.
Day 3 of the Championships will be played the following Sunday on November 23.
