Commemorate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice to end WWI at their Remembrance Day Service on Sunday, November 11.
The day started with the assemble at Corner of White and Robinson Street. The march headed off down White Street, turns left into Mayne Street and left again at Herbert Street to arrive at ANZAC Park.
The President welcomed all and introduction of the guest speaker Brigadier Allan Murray CSM.
Brigadier Allan Murray grew up in Charlestown, south of Newcastle, NSW. Born into a family with a rich military heritage, Allan’s own service totals 40 years in the Citizen Military Force, Regular Army and Army Reserve.
Allan reached the rank of Brigadier, has been awarded the Conspicuous Service Medal and has commanded 8th Combat Service Support Battalion (2004-05) and 8th Brigade (2011-14).
Allan served during the Cold War in the United Kingdom and West Germany (1986); has been a United Nations Peacekeeper in Syria and South Lebanon (1992-93); and visited 8th Brigade troops serving in the Solomon Islands (2013).
This was followed by the unveiling of the new memorial by Brigadier Allan Murray CSM.
The day continued with the opening Prayer and Dedication of the new memorial where folks in attendance laying of the wreaths.
The Last Post followed by the Ode, One Minute’s Silence and the Rouse.
To commemorate the centenary of the signing of the Armistice the Gulgong RSL Sub-Branch has secured a grant to construct a permanent memorial in Anzac Park in Gulgong, which will become the focal point of future commemorations of Remembrance Day.
The memorial, believed to be the only one in Australia, is a scale replica of the memorial which stands on the site where the Armistice was signed at Compiegne in France.

It is with great sorrow that we record the passing of our greatly esteemed member Les Monks, veteran of WW2, who sadly passed away November 11, 2018. Rest in Peace Les.
GULGONG RSL SUB-BRANCH MILITARY MUSEUM
Due to the hard work of sub-Branch members Craig Holden and Ron Kelly the Gulgong RSL sub-Branch museum reopened last Sunday bigger and better than ever.
The museum will be open every day between the hours of 10am and 3pm. Entry is free.
