There weren’t many fish caught but a lot of people said they weren’t really here to catch fish, they were here for a good cause and to have fun.
- Deidre Rogers
Over 150 entrants took part, some coming from across the state, in male and female categories in each of adult, junior child, and senior child. All registration fees went to the McGrath Foundation, along with all proceeds from both auctions (silent and regular), to bring the figure to nearly $6000.
“There were a lot of pink outfits, which was great to see so many people getting behind it,” Deidre Rogers of Cudgegong Waters Park said. “And even though there weren’t many fish caught a lot of people said they weren’t really here to catch fish, they were here for a good cause and to have fun.”
Australian fishing royalty - Jo and Steve Starling - were special guests at the event and with Jo having battled breast cancer herself her speech was a powerful and moving moment.
“She spoke about her journey and how fishing has helped her go through treatment and clear her mind,” Deidre said.
