Despite the heavy Mudcrabs presence, it was Orange who unsurprisingly came out on top.
Of the 12 divisions, Orange took out an outstanding 11.
“They [Orange] could quite easily be the dominant force in country NSW,” Mudcrabs Publicity Officer Ben Harris said.
“In their junior development, they’re very very strong. If there were 13 divisions I’m pretty sure all of Orange’s team would have made it.
“They’re head and shoulders above the rest.”
The Mudcrabs weren’t too far behind with nine of the 11 squads making it to some type of final, with the under 10s boys and under 12s finishing in fifth place.
A couple of close grand final matches against Orange saw the Mudcrabs under 18s boys and under 14s girls fall by one point.
For us to get within one touchdown of actually beating them [Orange] and nearly winning a division, was actually quite good,” Harris said.
Following the overall success of the event, it is likely to become an annual calendar event for junior touch clubs all over the region.
“From reports, next year could be bigger because everyone was raving about how well it was run, and how well Mudgee touch hosted it and the standard of the touch on show,” Harris said.
Fingers crossed it’s now going to be a must attend event for juniors across the region.
