Mudgee High School prides itself on providing a stable, safe and consistent environment. Our students are encouraged to set high standards for themselves that enable them to develop academically, socially and emotionally so as to become productive, well-rounded members of the community.
A broad range of opportunities in the academic, cultural, sporting and extra-curricular fields are offered.
We have recently changed our elective course offerings to Year 8 students so that they are now one semester, in duration. This means students may ‘taste’ a wider range of electives, allowing them to make better informed choices for Years 9 and 10.
In the senior school, more than 60 courses are offered including Extension Mathematics, Extension English, Extension History, industrial technology subjects, the full range of sciences, an extensive range of HSIE courses, VET courses, and a number of TAFE-based courses.
Students can participate in academic competitions such as public speaking, debating and UNSW Science, Mathematics and English. We also provide homework tutorials after school for mathematics, English and drama.

Mudgee High provides the opportunity for students to extend themselves outside the academic arena. Students are provided with many sporting opportunities for both individual and team sports. They are able to participate in cultural activities such as Japanese exchange visits, Remembrance Day and Anzac Day, NAIDOC Day and Rainbow Day. They can develop their leadership skills by being elected to the Student Representative Council or try out for the Rotary Adventure in Citizenship Program. Students can pursue artistic, dramatic and musical aspirations. The school band meets Tuesday afternoons. There is the annual MAD concert and following the hugely successful “Grease” in 2017 we are pleased to offer “Seussical” the musical in 2019.
We cater well for students seeking an ATAR, but also acknowledge that many students are seeking entry into other fields as they transition from school.
We successfully assist students in finding apprenticeships and guide them into career paths through our LINK and work experience programs. Students are kept apprised of potential career choices, traineeships and apprenticeships, and can complete formal white card training, RSG and RSA training.
Additionally, we organise visits to universities as well as inbound visits from tertiary education providers. The support and direction provided has made us a stand-out school in assisting young people in our care to make successful transitions into the adult world.
