In 2020, Maddison will perform in the Wizard of Oz Arena Spectacular after a chance audition landed her the role of a lifetime, but the path to stardom hasn’t been a straight line for Maddison and her family.
“From a very young age, Maddison just kept singing and singing and it was driving us mad and I thought if you’re gonna sing, you have to sing a little better than you are if we have to hear you (laughs). So we found someone that does singing lessons and we took Maddie to Tyrolin [Puxty],” Maddison’s mother Tanya said.
Tyrolin runs Stepping Out in Mudgee, a local business which works with students of all ages to develop their dancing and singing skills along with other creative disciplines like drama and creative writing.
“I would have to go in and sit next to her while she sang. Now she’s like ‘okay mum, off you go’.”
“I first met Maddie when she six years old, and she was very shy and wouldn't sing at all. It was only last year she gained confidence and was ready to perform a solo. This year, she has found a that special spark of passion and dedication and each week she is applying technique, improving and inspiring me as a teacher,” Tyrolin said.
Maddison’s first major coup was being selected from over 1000 other hopeful dancers to perform alongside DJ Jazzy at the Play World convention at Darling Harbour.
DJ Jazzy is a self-described ‘DJ, producer, singer, songwriter, dancer and a photographer’ who produces child-friendly dance music. While Maddison was in Sydney for the event, Tyrolin mentioned there were auditions happening for a Wizard of Oz production, on the spot, Maddison decided to audition.

Not long after Tanya received an email saying that Maddison had been successful and she would be a performer in the Wizard of Oz in 2020. Maddison has started attending practice events for the production already.
“We’re not sure what role she has yet but in 2020 she’s going to be tall. I first thought they might make her a munchkin but I don’t they’ll make her one because she will be too tall.” Tanya Seis said.
Maddison’s mum, Tanya couldn’t be more proud of her daughter’s progress.
“I would have to go in and sit next to her while she sang. Now she’s like ‘okay mum, off you go’.”
