For some, horse racing meets are the perfect opportunity to doll up and look fabulous, for others it’s about the racing, and for the rest, well it’s just another day.
Although this may surprise a lot of you, I must admit I had never been to a horse racing event in my entire life until the 2018 Mudgee Cup.
As a first timer and full-time horse lover, I found the experience intriguing, thrilling and crowded.
Never in my life had I seen so many stunning people in one area, and to make matters worse for myself, it wasn’t as if I was dolled up by any means, I was working (not complaining, there were so many perks of working at the Mudgee Cup).
Some say people go to races for the fashion and some go for the horses/racing, well, as much as I love fashion, I love horses more.
Anyone who knows me well knows how much I love clothing and all the rest of it, so this is a huge call.
My absolute favourite part of the whole experience was seeing so many horses – they are too beautiful for us, seriously.
I was one of those kids who begged their parents for a horse, but my wishes were declined. However, since I’m an adult now (age wise), I can confirm I will be getting a horse. And I can also confirm I am a very wishful thinker.
I’m also that person who gets upset when I see a horse get injured in a movie, I am not exaggerating when I say I have to look away, my partner knows this all too well.
On a negative side of things, my least favourite part was definitely the heat – thank goodness for sunscreen otherwise I would be a tomato right now, no tanning for me.
I couldn’t imagine the next day for those who were drinking in that heat, really wouldn’t be a fun time.
Would I ever go to a race meet again? Definitely, because I want to see the horses, even if it’s a scorcher.
If you’re like me and have waited to go to a race day for quite some time, I recommend that you go and check it out, you might love it.
Words of advice: lather on that sunscreen, drink lots of water, and dress sun smart (as long as it doesn’t spoil your look).
As for the racing side of things, all horses are winners in my eyes despite how cliche that sounds.
And if you’re gambling, be responsible and good luck.
