The Western NSW Local Health District is trumpetting a successful quarter for several key areas of Emergency Department and elective surgery performance at their public hospitals, with the release of the July-September 2018 figures.

Mudgee District Hospital performed 136 elective surgeries, with 100 per cent performed on time.
Emergency presentations remained relatively stable at the hospital with 2,865 people using the service during the quarter.
Chief Executive of the WNSWLHD, Scott McLachlan said the District performed 2,984 elective surgery procedures between July and September 2018, an increase of 3.4 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Mr McLachlan said the District delivering 99.3 per cent of those procedures within clinically recommended times, an outstanding result.

43,009 emergency patients presented to WNSWLHD Emergency Departments, with 228 people needing the most urgent care, an increase of 19 per cent in that category.
“Western NSW LHD is performing well in key areas, and demonstrating the role of local hospitals in handling complex emergency cases,” Mr McLachlan said.
“Getting patients to hospitals that can provide the right level of care is critical, particularly when there is a very severe injury or illness,” he said.
“It’s testament to the work of our staff, and the investment in our hospitals that we can see our role in complex emergency work strengthening.
“In our emergency departments our staff are working to transfer care from ambulance to hospital as quickly as possible, and we’ve achieved another improvement of 3.1 percentage points.
