Member for Dubbo Troy Grant said the project team, which includes the Western NSW Local Health District and Health Infrastructure, has consulted with clinicians, community representatives and other stakeholders to ensure the hospital meets the needs of Mudgee and the surrounding district well into the future.
“This project will deliver about 275 jobs in construction and related industries, and will boost local employment opportunities through skills and Aboriginal employment programs,” Mr Grant said. “When complete, the project will deliver an emergency department, a general medical and surgery unit offering a range of surgical procedures, a maternity unit so mums can continue to have their babies in Mudgee, a range of services for outpatients, a dental clinic, renal dialysis and oncology.
“I congratulate Hutchinson Builders on being awarded the contact and look forward to seeing them deliver a first class medical facility for Mudgee and the surrounding areas.”
A number of services have already been relocated to make way for construction of the new hospital. Community Health services is now provided on level 2 of the main hospital building and the Dental Clinic has moved to a new temporary building on Lewis Street, just behind the current emergency department.
