Mayor Des Kennedy said the $250,000 upgrade was done as a collaboration between Mid-Western Regional Council and users of Mudgee Skate Park during an onsite meeting earlier this year to discuss and listen to ideas and options for the upgrade of the park.
These submissions were incorporated into design concepts that were placed on public exhibition with the community voting on their preferred design.
“We had a lot of help from the users of the facility, they all had some input to help us design what they wanted rather than the Council staff saying ‘this is what you’ll have’,” he said.
“It’s no good someone sitting behind a desk designing this sort of thing, you’ve got to listen to the kids that use it and the parents that watch them and decide what’s dangerous and what’s safe.
“The total project here over the last 15 years is probably nearly $500,000 of concrete and steel, and I’m sure that the youth of the next 20 years will get plenty of value out of it.”
