The Rylstone Rodeo Show, under the umbrella of the Rylstone Show, put together an event of significant proportions that will become an annual happening. Lots of prize money attracted bull riders from all over Australia including current Junior World Champion Kyle Hall. Kyle was joined by 43 other riders of varying ability.
The specially bred bulls were trucked in from the Hunter Region and from local stock.
The bull riding comes under control of the Australian Bushman Camp Draught and Rodeo Association.
The bulls are quiet enough to be handled easily, but put on a performance when required.
The queue to get in, was 50 metres long and the start was delayed 20 minutes to let people in. Mid -Western Regional Council, Councillor Peter Shelly opened the show with a short speech and no “B. S.”
The arena prepared by Miskles Earthmoving was situated in the Rylstone Showground, using the hill as an amphitheatre, allowing spectators a clear view of the bull riding.
Riders tried to stay on the bull for eight seconds, (the bull usually won), then the Protection Athletes, Josh Birk and Jackson Clarke distracted the bull, while the rider escaped safely.
The Protection Athletes were very brave and agile, as they stood in front of the bulls, seemingly without fear, just jumping clear of lunging horns.
The sponsors would have been very happy with the exposure they gained for supporting the Bull-A-Rama: The Community Charity Shop, Rylstone CRT, Miskles Earthmoving, Kandos Street Machine and Kepco Coal.
A raffle run on the night, made $1700 for the Kids and Carers Support Group. President Nick Grozdanovski, Secretary Nancy Keck and the Rylstone Rodeo Show committee are to be applauded for a fine effort.
Amidst the heat and dust in December, Rylstone put on a red hot show on Friday, December 28 for the Rylstone Charity Shop, First Annual Bull-A-Rama.
Over at the KandosRylstone 2 Towns but 1 Community Facebook page, Peter Shelley posted a video from the event.
“What a fantastic night, here is just a little of what happened,” he wrote.
“Thanks again to the organisers, sponsors, volunteers and the community for supporting what we all hope will be a annual event.”
Mudgee Guardian photographer, Simone Kurtz and correspondent, David Innes were in attendance to cover the event.
We took well over 100 photos on the night, you can check them all out below.
