Grass Roots Cricket is set to return this weekend in order to bring back the spirit of cricket.
A group of cricketers including former Western District manager Terry Rayner decided it was time to return to grass roots since they felt as though the game has started to lose it’s passion.
The match will see Orange Invitation X1 and Windeyer Invitation X1 go head to head, with hundreds of cricket goers expected to appear.
It’s just to bring back the spirit of our game.
- Greg Hundy
Captain of the Windeyer side and co-organiser of the event, Greg Hundy says with all of the players set to appear, the event will be somewhat of a reunion in the best possible form.
“It should be a pretty competitive game,” he said.
“We’re treating it as a reunion as well.”
90-year-old David Lester, 94-year-old Ray Menchin and infamous cricketer Timm van der Gugten will all make an appearance on the day.
The event will be held on January 13th, at Windeyer Sports Ground at 11am.
