With the season starting to kick into gear, Mudgee rugby league are looking for more numbers (women’s under 15s, under 18s and opens).
While there are many sports to choose from, opens coach Guy Pascoe says rugby league is the next step up.
“I know a lot of girls that play netball and to a lesser extent league tag because they enjoy a competitive physical game,” he said.
This [rugby league] is the natural progression from those sports and really is next level.

Although having to make tackles is a huge part of the game, Pascoe ensures you’ll crave making the hits once you break the ice.
“I’ve asked several of our current crop of players this question [is tackling intimidating] and the answer is consistently along the lines of ‘once you make that first tackle, you just want more. You crave the physical contact and just want to get the better of your opposition’,” Pascoe said.
Guy himself is no stranger to the game with a 22 years on and off field experience - first grade premierships with Wyong Roos (1996), Gulgong Terriers (1997), Mudgee Dragons (2000), captained Mudgee Dragons (2001), and has coached local junior sides for the last several seasons.
It doesn’t matter what walk of life you come from, what job you have or what car you drive. When your out on that field standing shoulder to shoulder with your teammates in a tight game, you become one.
“The bond created with your teammates is extremely strong, giving a sense of belonging.”
Like any sport, there are many benefits associated with joining a team.
You definitely make lifelong friends in this game. You’re continually meeting new people both locally and with opposition players as well.
