Are you a member of one of our terrific Mudgee Region book clubs or would you like to join or start one? Come along and meet fellow readers, find out how different book clubs run and meet the library staff who recommend book club titles and love to talk books as much as you do. Join us at the Mudgee branch of Mid-Western Regional Library for this fun event to kick off our reading year. Morning tea is provided. From 10am at Mid-Western Regional Council Library, 64 Market Street, Mudgee.
Friday, January 18
Bookworms three to five years: From 10am each Friday Kandos library has Bookworms. This is for three to five years of age. Bookings are required. ($25 per year - registration forms available from the Library). Bookworms is a 50 minute per week program for children and their parent/carer. Bookworms aims to help the child become familiar with the Library and widen their experiences of traditional and modern literature. The session includes a mixture of picture books, stories told using puppets, drama and props, songs, games, poetry and a simple craft activity.
Born to Read six months to 18 months: No bookings required, held every Friday at Kandos Library from 11.15am. Born to Read is a 30 minute per week lap-sit program for babies and toddlers and their parent/carer, enjoying the rhyme and rhythm of children’s songs, nursery rhymes, musical instruments and other `noisy’ things. The program will help provide ideas and guidance to assist parents/carers to develop skills to use in their own homes and playgroups.
Monday, January 21
Kandos School Holiday Activity - From 10am to 11am for ages three to five years for butterfly peg magnets. From 11.30am to 12.30pm for ages nine to 12 woven insects. The children will be using weave techniques to make an insect magnet. Held at Kandos Library.
Friday, January 25
From 10am to 11am for ages three to five, water diffusing insect shapes. Use water to decorate different insect shapes. From 11.30am to 12.30pm for ages six to eight, board art. Use scratch boards to make different mini beasts.

Please join us for our first Monday History Talk of the year on February 4, 10:15am at Mudgee Library. Come along and hear special guest Lydia Smith speak about "The Pentonvillains", convicts arriving in Tasmania and Melbourne from Pentonville Prison in London. They were the first arrivals from the “separate system” which was experimental, and was later adopted at Port Arthur.
