Kandos is the place to be this Australia Day long weekend. For two decades Simpkins Park has come alive to host a fantastic family festival of fun – the Kandos Street Machine and Hot Rod Show.

And this Australia Day weekend the event celebrates 20 years of revving up as the smell of burning rubber wafts through and motor sport enthusiasts and their families flock to the park to enjoy a jam-packed two days.
This is just a really family-friendly, fun two days.

Rylstone Kandos Street Machine Club’s treasurer Daniel Falzon said the unique event is something different for the whole family to enjoy on Australia Day.
“This is just a really family-friendly, fun two days,” he said.
The kids will be happily occupied by the free entertainment (once entry has been paid), with a jumping castle, dodgem cars and face painting. There will be a range of food to tuck into and the bar will be open on Friday and Saturday nights.

Browse the trade stands, hold tight on the mechanical bucking bull, and tap your toes as the band plays on Saturday. The night’s festivities will go off with a bang as a giant fireworks display lights up the sky. But the heart of the show is the revved up range of motor sport events:

“Your car can have a really loud, but really poor quality sound system, because as the volume goes up sound gets distorted,” Daniel said. “This competition is looking for loud and quality.”
Dyno
“We run the cars up on rollers to measure how much power it packs. It measures the vehicle’s horsepower.”

A motorkhana-style event, cars navigate their way around an obstacle course in a timed event.
