James David Taylor, aged 30, of Mountain View Road, Mudgee, was sentenced for the charge ‘Intimidate police officer in execution of duty without causing actual bodily harm’.
At about 8.11pm on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, the Mudgee Police Station received a phone call from an unknown number.
The person on the other end said “stop following me around town you dogs” and threatened to “murder” a family member of an officer that Taylor had previously been charged with harassing.
Police did a patrol of payphones around the Mudgee CBD and saw Taylor in the booth of the Church Street phone in front of the former Medical Centre.
As they drove past he attempted to manoeuvre his body to conceal his identity and he began walking away as they stopped to question him about the phone call.
He became uncooperative with police, refusing to take direction and continually asking “what evidence do you have?” Which continued when he was arrested and taken to the station.
In 2017 Taylor was convicted of making similar phone calls to the police station from pay phones and making threats against officers.
He was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment with a non-parole period of six months, however has already served a significant part of that having been refused bail since August.
