One parent, Amy Young told the Mudgee Guardian about her son Sebastian’s first day of kindergarten.
“Sebastian had a great first day, he loves his new teachers and new friends. He said there is lots of people to play with.” Amy said.
“He had a huge first day and was asleep by the time we got down the end of the school block at the end of the day. I was nervous and a bit teary but I knew he would have a fantastic day.”
Amy and her children live closer to another public school in town but she didn’t want to break them up and she preferred the services available to Sebastian.
“Sebastian needed to go to Mudgee public because they have the special needs unit which is amazing, we sent Conner there also so they weren't at different schools. He absolutely loved his first day,” Amy said.
“He didn't want to come home.”
The school has been flexible enough to have Sebastian do part-day school days until he’s ready for a full day.
“He [Sebastian] only does 9am-1pm due to fatigue. He also has Tuesday's off for therapy,” Amy said.
“It will be for as long as he needs, the school is really flexible. I think most kinder kids are doing a full day this week though.”
With both of her children now at school, life is a little bit calmer for Amy who said while she enjoys the change, she still misses her sons.
“Its a little sad, the house is very quiet and clean and I actually have time to drink a hot coffee now.”
“Life has changed a bit, once Sebastian settles in and is doing full days I will be able to go back to work which is exciting.”
