It’s been 84 years…
Okay it hasn’t been 84 years, but I feel just like Rose Dawson in Titanic when she finally gets to live her truth and reveal what really happened with the Heart of the Ocean because my new book, I Now Pronounce You Husband and Expat, is coming out February 19, 2019!
While my book pales in comparison to one of the greatest love stories of all time, it does involve someone drawing me like one of their French girls. (If said French girl had a lower back tattoo and lactating breasts.) It also involves my account of what it’s been like to go from Florida girl to Mudgee mum. Highlights include my need of bedrooms for my children, an in-depth exploration into my food anxiety disorder and probably one too many poop stories.
In all seriousness I Now Pronounce You Husband and Expat picks up where my first book, Summerlandish: Do As I Say, Not As I Did, left off. Kind of sort of. It totally stands on its own just fine, but if you are curious about my younger years and shenanigans involving too much caffeine, lack of restraint and irrational fear of German Shepherds, you should totally pick that book up too.
More importantly - You’re Invited To My Book Launch!
Where: Roth’s Wine Bar
When: Wednesday, February 20 at 6:30pm
Open to the public, Portia Lindsay, General Manager of the Mudgee Readers’ Festival will launch the book, while I will be doing a short reading and eating my body weight in wood fired pizza. Let’s be honest – I will also be drinking some very hard earned wine.
About the book:
Gen Y’s answer to Bill Bryson and Amy Schumer, Summer Land hilariously details her journey from American expat to Australian citizen. From ruminations on the Royal Family to wearing Uggs in public, I Now Pronounce You Husband and Expat is a rollicking romp through cultural misadventures.
Filled with warmth and self-deprecating humour, Summer often guided by Donna, her widowed mom (or “Mum”), leaves you feeling inspired and ready to take a chance on yourself.
A delightful, generous and brutally honest voice in the not-so-serious memoir realm, Summer is the best friend you always wished you had.
Pre-order your copy of I Now Pronounce You Husband and Expat for your Kindle from Amazon.com. Summer will also be selling and signing books at her book launch at Roth’s Wine Bar.
