MORE than 8200 people have called on Charles Sturt University (CSU) not to change its name ahead of an official announcement from the institution.

As part of its upcoming 30th birthday celebration, CSU announced earlier this year that it was not only rebranding, but thinking about a name change.
CSU deputy vice chancellor Jenny Roberts said at the time she was not surprised that so many people had come forward with strong opinions on a potential name change.
“We knew that it would get a lot of feedback because we knew people loved this university,” she said.
Since then more than 6200 people have signed a change.org petition calling for the university to keep its name.
A further 2190 people have taken part in a survey run by Australian Community Media (ACM), with 92.15 per cent (2018 votes) calling on the name not to be changed.
Also in the ACM survey, 6.21 per cent (136 votes) said a name change was a good thing while a further 1.64 per cent (34 votes) were not sure.
ACM understands that the university has made a decision on whether the name will be changed and they will make an announcement on Monday, February 18.
