South Sydney Rabbitohs name their squad for 2019 Charity Shield

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have named their squad for the annual Charity Shield clash against St George Illawarra at Glen Willow Stadium on Saturday March 2.
Heading in with a 22-18 win over the Dragons last year in Mudgee the red and green certainly have bragging rights but only time will tell if the names below can pull off the same result.
Playing for the Rabbitohs at this years Charity Shield is:
- Alex Johnston
- Campbell Graham
- Dane Gagi
- Braidon Burns
- Corey Allan
- Cody Walker
- Connor Tracey
- Junior Tatola
- Damien Cook
- Tom Burgess
- John Sutton
- Sam Burgess (C)
- Cameron Murray
- Ethan Lowe
- Matt McIlwrick
- Tom Amone
- Rhys Kennedy
- Bayley Sironen
- Cory Denniss
- Kyle Turner
- Liam Knight
- Mawene Hiroti
Rabbitohs five-eighth Cody Walker says the Charity Shield isn't the only thing that brings the club out to the country-side.
“It’s very important that we get out to the country areas. The country game is slowing down and the numbers are dying so it’s really important that we get out there and inspire the kids out there to follow their dreams," Walker said.
It also gives the city boys a bit of an insight into what country players go through to put on their boots and play our great game.
Cody Walker
This year marks the third visit to Mudgee for Walker, and says there's a lot to love about the town.
Last year was the second time I’d played out there. I played there in the Country verse City game. It’s a great playing field, great facilities, and the crowd really got into it. The stadium was great so it was great to be a part if it and I certainly can’t wait to get out there this weekend.
“The Charity Shield is always a great game to be a part of. It’s quite quick, almost as quick as an NRL game, so it prepares the boys for round one and shows the younger boys what it’s like to play in the NRL," he said.
"Both us and the Dragons field our strongest available sides and it’s a great game to be a part of.”
The 2019 Charity Shield will kick off at 7.30pm at Glen Willow Stadium, March 2.
