If you want something and if you’re persistent, you’ll get it, and that was what South Sydney did in the 36th annual Charity Shield clash against the St George Illawarra Dragons.
It started with South Sydney winger Campbell Graham slicing through the right side to plant the first try of the night, awarding the red and green outfit with the upper hand three minutes in.
But just minutes later Corey Allan forced another try on the scoreboard for the Rabbitohs pushing South further in front of the Dragons.
St George weren’t willing to let go that easy with centre Zac Lomax diving through the left to get the Dragons on the board 15 minutes in.
Just when the Dragons supporters were in a bliss of possibility, Corey Allan scored his second try of the night awarded by a replay.
Dragons’ Tim Lafai should-have, could-have and did plant two tries, giving the centre back-to-back tries 31 minutes in.
After the half time break, the Rabbitohs came out firing with Cody Walker and Cameron Murray clocking two more tries for the Souths in a matter of minutes.
The stunning performance left the Dragons defense in tatters which only allowed Corey Allan to place down his third try, bringing the scoreboard to 32-18.
The Red V fought right till the end as Tariq Sims clawed back with a try followed by a flawless conversion off the boot of Gareth Widdop.
Bayley Sironen scored the final try of the night, his first in red and green colours, followed by a missed conversion by Ethan Lowe, and that was it.
Souths are crowned with another Charity Shield win with a score of 36-24.
