Kiddie Academy Mudgee celebrated their first birthday on Saturday March 9, but did more than just celebrate.
Educators at the day care centre decided they would like to fundraise for five-year-old Mia Bennett on their one year mark.
“When I heard about what was going on with Mia and her brain tumour, we all decided to do a fundraiser on our birthday for her,” centre director Elizabeth Hall said.
Mia is a Gulgong local who recently was discovered to have a five centimetre tumour in her head, and has had a rally of people behind her every step of the way including Kiddie Academy.
Mia’s story hits close to home for Elizabeth as she has also gone down a similar path when her boy was born.
“Cancer is very hard with children in the first place,” she said.
“My little boy was born with cancer and the community helped my family when we were going through our cancer journey.
It’s good to pay back to the community and help someone else who is in need just like we were.

Once the total amount fundraised has been calculated, Kiddie Academy have said they will match the number.
“Mia has touched the hearts of a lot of our educators,” Ms Hall said
“When we decided that this is what we wanted to do we thought that [fundraising] would be the best way to help Mia.”
Educator at Kiddie Academy, Kelly Thompson said she was proud to be apart of the event.
“I think it’s a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together and get behind people who are in need like this," she said.
Meanwhile, the first year for Kiddie Academy has been ‘brilliant’.
I felt proud to have Mia’s face at the front of it. It was a nice moment for the centre.

“We have gotten to know a lot of new families, new children and have adapted our centre for the community in introducing the new two-year-old room from the demand,” Elizabeth said.
