This is the first year the Mudgee Dragons have competed in the competition, and opens coach Guy Pascoe says it’s a credit to the players to have gone this far.
“It’s a bit of an accomplishment actually for the girls for what they’ve done,” he said.
It’s quite an achievement for what we’ve done in such a short space of time.
- Guy Pascoe
“With not only the success on the field, but off the field we’ve really started to gel as a club."

The opens came second on the ladder, while the under 18s finished fourth, having had to win their latest round to qualify for semi finals.
Up until last week registrations were pouring in, and Pascoe said it’s a result of the success Mudgee has had in the competition.
“It’s just a great springboard, it’s really going to progress from here, onwards and upwards,” he said.
“The word is getting out and about.
“To promote the sport and get the numbers is the aim of the game."
Opens will take on the Panoram Platypus on Sunday March 17 at Wellington, and Pascoe says it’s expected to be a highly competitive clash.
Mudgee is really starting to become a force in the competition.
“Both teams will be full strength so it will be a very competitive game, I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
Meanwhile, the under 18s will go up against the Orange Vipers on Saturday March 23.
“The under 18s, I really think have a great showing,” Pascoe said.
“They’ve improved a hell of a lot. I think their chances are good.
They’ve really bought into it. They’ve really grasped the concept of the game.
