Sam Siess from Gulgong Preschool said they wanted to organise something that could help the family as soon as they heard the news.
"When we heard the news we were very devastated, we had a meeting about how we could help the family so we decided to hold a raffle," Sam said.
Mia, being an ex-student of Gulgong preschool made it an easy choice for the community to get behind Mia.
Sam put a post on a community Facebook page, gauging interest on who was willing to donate, but that was just the start.

"It started as just a raffle but we had such a flood of donations that we decided to hold an auction."
The team at McGregor Real Estate in Gulgong gladly volunteered their time for an auction to raise funds as well.
The auction exceeded expectations, with at least $13,000 raised from the auction alone, with more tallying still to be done.
Sam says the Gulgong community is unique in how tight-knit it is.
"Definitely, the township and the community, they're special, they always rally together in tough times, it's one of a kind," Sam said.
"I'd like to thank everyone for their support, I want thank them individually but we just wanted to finalise everything first, I've kept track of everyone that helped out."

This auction wasn't the only fundraising that's been done for Mia, everyone is chipping in to do their part.
A fundraiser organised on Facebook by Mudgee woman Kelly dray has raised nearly $400 with a goal to reach $20,000 for the family.
Another fundraising initiative, spearheaded by Paul Cavalier was 'Cupcakes for Mia', people could buy a box of cupcakes with all the proceeds going to Mia and her family.
Mia was lucky enough to spend an early sixth birthday in Gulgong after a spinal tap came back negative and she was able to travel back home with her family for the first time since February.
