Federal Member for Calare, Andrew Gee, said the aim of the program is to stimulate local spending by using the area's workers, business and suppliers, and added "there'll be some great projects going on right across the region which will give the community a real boost".
"The important thing about the Drought Communities Program is that it recognises the severe impact the drought is not only having on the farms, but also in our towns and villages," he said.
"The only drought-breaker is rain, so we need to continue doing all we can to ensure these communities have the support they need to make it through these tough times."
Mayor of the Mid-Western Region, Cr Des Kennedy, welcomed the injection of funds because "all of these jobs needed doing, but there was a sense of wondering where the funding came from".
"It's 12 projects - seven of which are outside the Mudgee area - so Gulgong, Kandos, and Rylstone are getting a good chunk of this million dollars," he said.
"And it'll be spent wisely and give local tradies some work, while improving our walking paths, construct a filtration plant at Cudgegong Waters Park, and various other jobs."
