A turbulent off-season due to losing younger female members to university and moving away has seen the lady Falcons fight valiantly in their two opening games; unfortunately falling to defeats against Westside Panthers and Dubbo Bulls. The girls were able to fight off both of their opponents for the first half hour of the matches, however with the heat and conditions they succumbed to their opponents. All the ladies deserve the plaudits for their incredible attitude and sense of fun. The ladies are still looking for extra members to bolster the squad, no experience needed just a willing attitude.
In contrast to the lady Falcons, the men's team has started the season in fine fettle. With a settled and steady back four complimenting an energetic attack the men have taken four points from a possible six, both away games. The season started with a valiant 2-2 draw against Newtown Devils. The men only had nine players and were level at half time thanks to a fine header from Matt Cremona; the game ended in a draw which flattered the Dubbo hosts as the Falcons spurned a flurry of chances to take all three points.
On Sunday, April 14, the men took on South Dubbo Wanderers in what turned out to be a feisty affair. Once again, Matt Cremona gave the Falcons the lead with a mazy solo effort before half time. Some dubious refereeing saw skipper Joe Peters sent off with a straight red after the restart.
However, this only galvanised the Falcons who ended up 3-1 victors. The side is now sitting comfortably third in the table with Westside Panthers for company - who also have a win and a draw to their name, but are ahead on aggregate - with the twice victorious East Dubbo United leading.
After the Easter break the club will have their first home matches of the season on April 28, with the Falcons ladies getting the day's action underway at 11am and the men taking to Billy Dunn Oval at 1pm.
- Registration is still open for ladies aged 14 and above, men aged 16 and above. Please contact Joe Peters on 0476 267 227 for more details.
