This year our JDRF Jelly Baby Breakfast has been replaced with 'Curlz for a Cure'. Our ten years old son, William has decided to take on the challenge of raising money and awareness for children, like himself living with Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which there is no cure. JDRF are a non-profit organisation dedicated to research to prevent and cure this disease.

Eight years ago, JDRF became part of our family. Will was only 2 years old when we were told he was going to live a life full of challenges. Will being a brave and an amazing two years old, took it in his stride and began a life of insulin injections, painful finger tests and the highs and lows that came with it. On Friday, May 24, Will along with all his mates at Rylstone Public School will be hosting a 'Crazy Hair Day'.
Will has been growing his curls and this day, they're getting the chop! Crazy hair parade starting at 10:30am at Rylstone Public School. This will be followed by an 11am cutting of the curls.
The lucky hairdresser wielding the scissors will be the Principal, Jodee Burcher. All are welcome to attend. For those able to donate, collection tins can be found at many local businesses in the Rylstone and Kandos communities. Alternatively, donations can be made online at https://teamcurediabetes.everydayhero.com/au/curlz-for-a-cure.
Thank you, Glen and Rachel Maher
Kandos Confusion on Voting Day
While the Rylstone polling booth at the Rylstone Public school went smoothly, communication problems with the voting site saw many people arriving at the Kandos High School.
Unfortunately, the school was closed, as the voting was transferred to the Kandos Community Hall. Public calls to KRR-FM had the community radio trying to rectify the problem.
Kandos Fire Station 342 mobbed on Open Day
NSW Fire and Rescue Station 342 Kandos, opened the doors to the public last Saturday morning. The crew involved in showing the public around were kept busy. Well over 100 people enjoyed a tour, squirting water from the fire hoses, sausage sizzle, sitting in the fire trucks and show bags for the kids.
Kandos High School Student Sport Representatives
Jessica Reynolds and Halli O'Brien travelled to Wollongong to compete in the Under 15s NSW State Touch Championships. The girls represented themselves, their school and the Western Region with pride and sportsmanship. The Western team narrowly missed out on the semi-finals placing 5th Overall.
Congratulations to Halli O'Brien, who competed in the trial held at Parkes on the last day of Term 1 and was successful in being selected to join the Western Open Girls Squash team. She will now compete at the NSW CHS State Squash Championships in Thornleigh in July.
Well done girls!
Shitbox Rally fills Cudgegong Waters Caravan Park
Last Thursday night 250 vehicles and over 550 people including entrants and support crew, arrived for the night as part of the Shitbox rally. The Cudgegong Waters Caravan Park staff had been cooking for days to feed the rally crew. The cars had set off from Perth travelling through the centre of Australia, before reaching Sydney, raising funds for the Cancer Council.
Considering each vehicle had to cost less than $1000 and to travel on the rough roads it is pretty demanding, so to have an attrition rate of nine-ten per cent is quite low. Support vehicles and mechanics work overtime to keep the cars going but some cars are 'declared dead' and towed along. This rally has made a surprising two million for the Cancer Council.

Rylstone Aerodrome Air Park Celebration of Aviation
An amazing day of continuous aircraft action at the Rylstone Aerodrome Air Park, last, Saturday was enjoyed by an estimated 2000 spectators. About 200 aircraft with 350 aviators attended three days of aviation celebration.
Amazing aircraft action by the Red Baron Team, led by Joel Haski, aerobatic State Champion. Flying the Extra 300L, Joel gave crowds a spectacular demonstration of precision control.
Joel is a general aviation industry veteran with over 8,000+ hours of aerobatic flying and instruction to his name. He owns and operates the Red Baron from Bankstown Airport, providing flight training, aerobatic training and adventure flight services and for over a decade represented Red Bull.
Dick Smith, Companion of the Order of Australia, flew his helicopter to Rylstone to meet and greet fellow aviators. While here, he opened the new fuelling depot built to service all forms of aircraft.
Rob Loneragan, founder of the airfield said, "I'm overwhelmed with delight what is happening in this little town of Rylstone, that has brought so many aviators, lovers of aeronautics and the public to view today."
With excellent catering, the lunch decisions varied from the traditional BBQ sandwich, Pizza, Vietnamese food, curry, coffee etc. A fine sunny day made the day thoroughly enjoyable for everyone.
