It's been a busy week across the Dubbo electorate, with a ministerial visit, a town show and an NRL game among the highlights.

On Tuesday I hosted the Minister for Agriculture and Western NSW, Adam Marshall, and we had breakfast with some representatives of the local agriculture sector.
After we visited Peter and Natalie Ryan's farm to hear firsthand what they have done with some government funding they've received, and what else can be done in relation to drought-relief measures.
We were also treated to a visit to the Little Big Dairy between Dubbo and Narromine, as well as NDF Disc Planters in Narromine, both of which are innovative rural businesses doing great work despite the trying times.
Minister Marshall also met with senior staff of Narromine Shire Council to discuss their issues before we both attended the Local Land Service Awards.
I know the Minister has taken on board the issues raised with him and will consider them when plans are put in place for the next round of drought measures.
Wellington show
On Saturday I had the honour of officially opening the Wellington Show, and it was wonderful to attend an event that really brings our rural communities together.
The great thing about country shows is that no matter the conditions, these events provide a chance for people, particularly farmers and their families, to forget their problems for a bit and enjoy a day out.
The animal displays at Wellington were wonderful, as were the pavilion entries, and I'm determined to get a gig as a tester for the cakes and jams next year.
Don't forget that this weekend will see the show roll into Dubbo and I know sideshow alley is already being set up.
Fabulous match
Sunday saw me on the road to Mudgee to watch the NRL match between St George-Illawarra and Newcastle at Glen Willow, and while it was a one-sided contest in favour of the Knights, to be able to watch top-class footy in our region was absolutely fantastic.
Mid-Western Regional Council deserves a massive pat on the back for building the relationship with St George-Illawarra.
I think we should certainly look at attracting more of these events - whether it be NRL, A-League or Super Rugby - to our region.
Congratulations
Finally, I would like to congratulate my Mark Coulton on winning a fifth term as the Member for Parkes in Saturday's federal election.
Mark is a great representative for his region and I'm sure that will continue to be the case over the next three years.
Firies open their doors
Hundreds of fire stations across the state will open their doors to the community last weekend for the Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Open Day, inviting people to learn more about Australia's largest urban fire and rescue service.
A range of free activities were held including firefighting demonstrations, station tours and safety presentations.
The Open Day was great chance for families to get up close with firetrucks and special equipment while learning about the critical work our local firefighters do to protect the community.
It's was also an opportunity for locals to learn how to be fire-safe, chat to their local firefighters and say thank you for their bravery.
Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott said the Open Day would be a chance to thank their local firies for their commitment to protecting life and property.
"The brave men and women of Fire and Rescue NSW put their lives on the line to keep the community safe," Mr Elliott said.
Until next week,
Dugald
