Rylstone StreetFeast Inc's Peter Monaghan said it's organised by a not-for-profit, community-based, volunteer committee, and that after costs any proceeds are then distributed to other community organisations.
"We have about five community groups that actually help us on the day and in return they receive a donation," he said. "Normally we distribute about $10,000 each year."
Furthermore, being one of the area's biggest events local businesses get a significant bump as well.
"On StreetFeast day, while we've got stalls, the local cafés and restaurants do quite well because not everyone wants to sit down for the long lunch," he added. "So it's a big day for the businesses of Rylstone and surrounding accommodation outlets.
"Eighteen years ago when it started it was to promote everything local about the Rylstone district, because back then not that many people probably knew about it. They used to limit the numbers to about 200, because if it happened to be wet they could move it into the Memorial Hall, but now we're regularly getting about 400 for the long lunch and had more last year."
However, as times change so do the regulations.
"Another reason that we need a major sponsor is because in 18 years things have changed markedly in terms of what you need to do to close a main street and get permission to serve and consume alcohol," Mr Monaghan said. "For the last several years we've had to hire security guards - that's not because we're anticipating any trouble, there never has been any - it's just a requirement now."
Tickets for the 2019 long lunch - by Rachel McCarthy and Mudgee Catering Co - go on sale online from June 3.
