It was potentially one of the Wombats' classiest performances of the year to date after the club claimed a clean sweep against the Dubbo Rhinos on Saturday.
First up it was the Mudgee women who claimed a 38-19 victory over the black and gold, followed by second grade who claimed the crown with a 19-12 win.
But, who was to predict Mudgee's first grade side would walk away with a monster 64-10 triumph.
"We knew that Mudgee had a strong forward pack, particularly their scrum, their line out as well, they've got a really really good jumper," Rhinos captain Matthew Neill said.
"We sort of knew what we were in for but they are just a really classy side."
First on the board for the batties was James Ford who scored five in the first four minutes of the clash, who successfully converted his own try.
David Smith followed Ford's lead to score his own try five minutes later, also converted by Ford.
By half-time, the red and blue's had given themselves a rather comfortable lead, putting 33 points on the board, a significant jump to Dubbo's five.
If the first half didn't seal Dubbo's fate, the next 40 minutes certainly did despite the visitors clocking another five on the board only to hand Mudgee a 64-10 victory.
I feel like we probably hurt ourselves a little bit in patches with our discipline but there was a lot of areas we needed to improve on that we fixed this round.
- Dubbo Rhinos captain, Matthew Neill
"Our defence was a lot better for the majority of the game, when we did attack we attacked well so other than the scrum and the line out, I think it was probably more matched than it looked.
"I'm happy with the way they guys have shown their improvement.
"That was the best performance Dubbo has put up in a game I've played against them, they were better structured, it was just a good game of rugby from both teams, hard running and hard hitting," Batties captain, Tom Dunstan said.
Dunstan continued to add that there was little for his side to improve on in that particular clash, but mentioned staying strong for the full 80 minutes is going to be the focus.
We only turned off for very small periods of time, we kept putting pressure on them and kept to our game plan. Obviously the scoreboard reflected that.
- Mudgee Wombats captain, Tom Dunstan
"Not switching off at small periods of time to let the teams back into the game, if we can put on a full 80 minutes performance,we'll be able to put more scores on like we did."
