After months of preparation, rehearsals and nerves, Mudgee High School students put on their production of 'Seussical: The Musical' at the Mudgee Town Hall Theatre under the watchful eye of teacher and Director, Cassarndra Slade-Potts.

Cassarndra, who is a drama teacher at Mudgee high School said the production was a long process but seeing it happen on stage was all worth it.
"So the play focuses on the story of Horton Hears a Who! The Whos are list on this dust speck, their entire world exists on this tiny dust speck and Horton is only one that can hear them.
Nobody believes Horton until the character, JoJo invents a new word 'Yopp!' and then everyone comes around and believes Horton, that's it in a nutshell," Ms Slade-Potts said.
The production was conceived in 2018 - but work didn't begin in earnest until a few terms ago.
"It us about two full terms. which is twenty weeks to produce the play. They sometimes take up to a year. We kind of decided a couple of little things like the vision of what we wanted it to look like, but we didn't start doing any rehearsals until this year," Ms Slade-Potts said.

Cassarndra says the play is almost exclusively singing and music with very little 'dialogue' in between, which put off some students early.
"You get a bit of a mixed reaction. We did have quite a few students that started off in the musical and then realised that it wasn't quite what they wanted. Which is perfectly understandable," Ms Slade-Potts said.
"The majority of the kids were so excited, they had so much energy and enthusiasm. Some of them even created some of the ideas that you saw in the show."
Cassarndra said they couldn't have been happier with the reaction from each audience they played for.
"They loved it, there were quite a few giggles and laughs, we had students come out at the end and they all went up and congratulated them and said they loved it. We had such a positive vibe from the audience," Ms Slade-Potts said.
"I'm so absolutely thrilled for them and how they have grown their skills and improved so much and I'm just so proud of them."
Cassarndra said she's taking a bit of a break from directing for a little while, though she admits there are some ideas already floating around.
"I'm taking a little bit of a break. We do allow any teacher at the school who would like to do a production to do one, it isn't just up to the drama teacher. There are some ideas floating around."
