Tributes flooded in on Monday morning following the passing of Kallas, one of the town's most recognisable faces with his beloved Cowra Magpies saddened following the loss of a legend.
"Few people have enriched our town like Sid," the club said in a post on the Magpies' Facebook page. The Cowra club plays at Sid Kallas Oval.
"For decades Sid was the heart and soul of our great club," the post continued.
"His dedication to the administration, fundraising and support of our club was second to none and will never be forgotten.
We have definitely lost one of rugby league's true gentleman.
- Orange CYMS on the loss of Cowra great Sid Kallas.
"RIP peace our teammate, our teacher, our friend."
The Orange CYMS club also posted a tribute to the Cowra legend.
"RIP Sid and thank you from Orange CYMS for your decades of service and dedication to our great game. We have definitely lost one of rugby league's true gentleman," the post read.
Born and bred in Cowra, Kallas grew up in Watt Street before gaining a scholarship to go to teacher's college.
After some brief stints in Mendooran, Dunedoo and Coonabarabran, Kallas returned home where he taught at Mulyan Public School from 1969 to 1997.
It was upon his return to Cowra that he got roped into selling some raffle tickets for the Magpies - a role he would continue for the next 44 years.
He helped to found Cowra Junior Rugby League in 1971 and was a president, treasurer and more recently a life member of both the senior and junior branches of the Magpies.
When he received his Order of Australia Medal in 2015 for his services to the Cowra community and to rugby league, Kallas told the Cowra Guardian his "greatest honour" was when the Cowra Magpies decided to name their home ground after him - Sid Kallas Oval.
