It's felt like a protracted week here at the Mudgee Guardian, news comes hard and fast and sometimes you have to act accordingly.
I usually couldn't tell you what would be on the front page of any particular newspaper or date on the website until much later that you think. But this week there was a clearly defined issue that was dividing the town, or at least it seemed like it was on social media.
There are two solar farm Development Applications on public display right now and while there has been discussion on both, the big story at least right now is the furore over the Burrundulla development.
I've spoken with people on all sides of the issue, and will continue to as the process takes its course. I've also fielded many calls from people asking how we can help 'win' their case for or against the development.
I'm flattered people are asking us to weigh in, but I feel like I have to remind everyone that our essential role is to remain neutral and to report facts.
These editorials notwithstanding, we don't or won't take a side. However, we are happy to inform people of the process, such that they might become a part of it and effect the change they hope to see.
You have until July 5 to make any submissions to Council on the DAs. It's fine to post on social media with your thoughts, we all do that. But this is still a rigid and formal process, just one that has stoked a lot of passion in people, which is fantastic.
So if you want your voice heard *officially* head to the Mid-Western Regional Council website before July 5 and head to the 'Documents on Exhibition' section on the front page. There you will find the following information:
Any person is invited to inspect the application and plans at Council's Administration Centre, 86 Market Street Mudgee. Plans may also be made available at the following locations, upon request:
- Administration Centre, 109 Herbert Street, Gulgong
- Administration Centre, 77 Louee Street, Rylstone
Written comments in respect of any application must be addressed to the General Manager and received prior to 4:30pm on the day the application comes off exhibition.
