"Any horse you win on you want to ride again."
That's what jockey, Billy Cray had to say about his victory with the Byran Dixon-trained Outta Space in race three of Mudgee's 2019 Winter Race Day on Sunday.
The five-year-old who last ran second of 13 at a Dubbo race meet at the end of June, had the 'perfect' run in the Robert Oatley Vineyards Benchmark 58 Handicap (1500 metres) and was able to pull off the win ahead of Tokyo King (John Steinmetz) and Mudgee-based entry The Scotsman (David J Smith).
"It went perfectly to be honest, he jumped quickly," Cray said.
"He was the best horse today wasn't he. It's simple racing, the best horse on the day normally wins."
Cray says everything went according to plan despite some questionable moments.
"He was a little bit keen around the 800 and I needed some room otherwise I was in a bit of trouble but just as I thought that the gap opened and we went for it," Cray said.
