The Year 10 student at St Matthew's Catholic School, said she wanted to take part in the youth leadership and personal development program to help her develop a variety of skills.

"I made the decision to partake in this program for numerous reasons; I wanted to learn new skills; I wanted to be out of my comfort zone; I wanted to try something new; and finally I have a passion for helping people and if possible making even the slightest difference in someone's life," she said.

Adrienne has been paired with John Sun from the Mid-Western Regional Council as her coach.

A major aspect of the program is to develop and run a community service project.

"The project I have selected for Max Potential is to offer primary school student free mathematics tutoring," she said.

"I am passionate about mathematics, really enjoy learning new things, and I would love to change the commonly negative perspective most young people have on mathematics. Consequently, I would like to share my enthusiasm for the subject with other young people who need help or are interested in learning more about maths."

The tutoring will initially be held in the first two weeks of Term 3, after school.

"In undertaking this project I would like to achieve multiple goals; one of which is improving the fundamental mathematical skills of young people who need or want help; I would also love to grow young people's love for the subject of maths," she said.

"My project will have a lasting benefit on all involved as it will improve the participant's skills in the subject area of mathematics. It can also set up youthful people for later schooling and it might even evoke a passion for mathematics within the student.

"I would also like to thank St Matthew's Catholic School for the approval of my project and for allowing me access to the school as a venue."
