This year they enjoy a sausage sizzle before wandering down to the main game to cheer the current Gulgong team on. Unfortunately Gulgong were defeated by Gilgandra on the day.
Gulgong's new tourist centre
As of August 7 Gulgong will have a new Tourist Information Centre at The Gulgong Gold Experience. The visitor information will be held in the mine entrance until the renovations to the Miners Cottage are completed. This will make an excellent venue for the visitors to visit with the new bus and visitor parking in White Street opposite the entrance to the cottage. There will also be tea rooms there as well as a gift shop.
For the past year the Ten Dollar Town has been the home of the Tourist Information Office and although Di and her staff have done a great job, parking was becoming a problem with Mayne Street so busy.
2020 celebrating 150th years
On Tuesday, July 16 the newly elected President of the Gulgong Arts Council, Robyn Andrews along with Toni Morrison and Bruce McGregor visited Wenonah Lodge Aged Care Centre where, they joined some of the residence, staff, board member and CEO Jennifer Crust for morning tea.
The purpose of this visit was to present a cheque for $1,000 being proceeds from the recent Gulgong Scarecrow Stroll held over the June long weekend in conjunction with the Henry Lawson Heritage Festival.
What an amazing effort from Gulgong to make this event so successful.
Toni Morrison, Secretary of the Gulgong Arts Council said "We hope this year's event starts the artistic ideas juices flowing to make the 2020 event even greater with 2020 being Gulgong's 150th year celebration."
This new event for Gulgong, 'The Gulgong Scarecrow Stroll' was designed to link the Gulgong Henry Lawson Heritage Festivities with Gulgong Arts Council's annual 'UneARThed' Art Show/Exhibition held at the Memorial Hall which is two blocks away from the festivities.
This worked very well allowing the town visitors and locals to meander along Herbert Street admiring the 47 handmade/designed scarecrows by the local schools and preschools, businesses, nan's, pops and grandchildren, the local MPS staff and residents from Wenonah Lodge and even our local police participated.
Everyone ended up at the UneARThed Art Show/Exhibition where there was an amazing array of art, pottery and sculpture to view from local and regional artists.
With a total of 470 entries in all and major prizes of 2 x $1,000 and 1 x $500 on offer there was something for everyone in this art competition as well as the viewer.
Special thanks to
