Across the weekend volunteer firefighters responded to a number of illegal, unnotified burns across the Mid-Western Regional Council area. Even though permits aren't yet required, landholders still need to provide 24 hours notice of intention to burn to the Fire Control Centre (02) 6372 4434 and neighbours.
While these works are best completed ahead of the summer period, without any meaningful rain in a significant period of time and recent strong winds, a high level of caution needs to be taken.
Landholders intending to burn are asked to ensure; access to water; access to appropriate equipment to maintain control over the fire; an area of at least 5m cleared around the fire; the fire is 10m away from any structure; supervision at all times.
No burns are allowed during a Total Fire Ban.
