The Mudgee native recently played for the NSW Country 15s side at the 2019 Westfield National Youth Championships for Girls and won goalkeeper of the tournament.

"It felt pretty good, it was an amazing feeling," she said.

Smith began her soccer career six years ago at the Mudgee Wolves, and says it was the right place for her to kick start her journey.

"It was a good starting platform, I had a good coach Jason Payne who helped me a lot," Lily said.

Lily recently made the three hour move to Blacktown to play for the Blacktown Spartans, and says while it took some time to get use to, she's 'loving it'.

"It's very different, it was hard to get used to everyone's routine since I come from a small country town but I'm used to it now so it's good," she said.

"I love just being around everyone, soccer has good people so I just love being around the team and having fun."

When asked at what point did she decide soccer was going to be her future particularly as a goalkeeper, Smith says it was when she realised she had the ability to go further.

"When I got selected into the first nationals team in 2017 and kept improving as a goalkeeper I realised I actually wanted to go somewhere because I had a bit of potential," she said.

Smith now has her eyes on a number of progressive steps that could potentially put her in the direction of securing her ultimate dream job.

"From here, I'm hoping to get asked to trial for the Mini Matildas or there's a development camp for eight keepers that they choose from the nationals tournament," she said.

"I really want to play for the Matildas, but in W-League I'd probably want to go for the Western Sydney Wanderers."
