An innovative plan to use artificial intelligence (AI) to help identify medical needs in emergencies and natural disasters was what secured Cudgegong Valley Public School with award in the primary schools category at the 2019 challenge.
Our future is in safe hands with our kids as the problem solvers.
- CVPS Principal, Michelle Neaverson-Smith
Over the three-day challenge the 'Cudgegong Crusaders' developed an idea for what they called an AI disaster data distributor (AIDDD), which they said collects local data during natural disasters and 'triaged in the cloud' to determine whether to send further medical support.
Principal of Cudgegong Valley Public School, Michelle Neaverson-Smith said she couldn't have been more proud of the students' effort.
"The 'Cudgegong Crusaders' did an outstanding job at the Game Changer Challenge in Sydney, I could not have been prouder of the way they embraced the challenge, working collaboratively together to create the AIDDD," she said.

"Our future is in safe hands with our kids as the problem solvers."
Cudgegong Valley Public School was among nine public school finalists which delivered their pitch to an industry panel that included NSW Department of Education Secretary Mark Scott, University of Sydney robotics expert Dr Viorela Ila and Google for Education country program manager Brent Sarver.
Almost 180 primary and secondary public school students and their teachers, from as far west as Broken Hill and north to Kingscliff, near the Queensland border, were brought to Sydney for the three-day event.
Cudgegong Valley Public School won the primary school award in the inaugural Game Changer Challenge in 2018.
