The Mudgee Guardian is staying in town, but the historic Perry Street building we've been in since 1890 will go under the hammer in October.
Keen readers of the Mudgee Guardian will notice the listing in the Domain real estate section on our website and in Friday's newspaper. The Perry Street address is set to go under the hammer on October 11 - unless sold prior.
I'm looking forward to see who the new owner is and what they make of it.
- Director of The Property Shop, Andrew Palmer
Since the transition from Fairfax Media to Nine Entertainment then to Australian Community Media (ACM), the Mudgee Guardian has continued to provide high-quality local news content while staying on top of technological and social change around the world to better bring that news to the residents of the Mid-Western region and beyond.
While many aspects of the building have changed and been adapted over the years, the remnants of things long gone are still present.
There's still a big space out the back where they used to run the printing press (with a tractor!). There's a trap door which takes you down into an empty cellar that used to house the paper archives before they were brought upstairs.
The multi-bedroom apartment that sits above us is still there - frozen in time since its last occupant moved out more than 15 years ago.
The apartment space was recently featured - albeit briefly - on the Nine Network drama, Doctor Doctor. The front entrance of the apartment was jazzed up and used as the 'front door' of the Doctor's home in the show, though the interior was filmed on a set somewhere in Sydney.
Australian tv personality and former 9 Perry Street resident, Scott McGregor took the Mudgee Guardian on a guided tour through his old home back in 2016. You could still see his paintings on the walls dated back in 1975.
The building will find a new owner when the space is auctioned off in October by The Property Shop. Director of the Property Shop, Andrew Palmer says he's honoured to be a part of such a historic sale.

"The Property Shop are honoured to be able to able to offer this property for sale, our business has been advertising weekly in the Guardian for 46 years so we feel we have a real affinity with the business and the building. It's great to be involved in this transition," Andrew said.
"These historic buildings are interesting properties to sell they have so much character and history attached to them. The Guardian building is such a prominent feature in our CBD with frontage to both Perry St and Byron Place, a substantial building with its charming original facade, it has so much potential. I'm looking forward to see who the new owner is and what they make of it."
In the lead up to the auction and potential sale, we will take a look back at the history of the building and talk to previous residents and employees.
