In response to Des Kennedy's opinion piece (Mudgee Guardian 13 September), not all local people support having the richest agricultural land in the Shire ripped up for more dirty coal.
The Mudgee Region already has 3 of the largest coal mines in NSW. These should be supplying all the employment needs of local communities.

If coal trains start rumbling through Mudgee at 3am in the morning to supply Mt Piper power station, I'm sure there will be a sudden change of attitude towards the industry.
